China National Building Materials Glass New Materials Research Institute is one of the top ten leading enterprises in scientific and technological breakthroughs in China's building materials industry. The predecessor of China National Building Materials Glass New Materials Research Institute (referred to as "General Glass New Materials Research Institute") was the first batch of national comprehensive A-level scientific research and design units established in Beijing in 1953. It is a national key high-tech enterprise, a national technology innovation demonstration enterprise, and a national industrial design center. In the 1970s, a group of scientific research backbones moved from Beijing to Bengbu City, Anhui Province, and established the Bengbu Glass Industry Design and Research Institute. In 2000, they joined China National Building Materials Group and restructured to establish China National Building Materials International Engineering Group Co., Ltd.; in 2014, the Bengbu Institute was established as the core enterprise. Triumph Technology Group Co., Ltd. became a state-owned enterprise mixed ownership reform pilot unit in 2019, and completed the reorganization and capital increase in 2021. China National Building Materials Engineering Group became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bengbu Institute. In 2022, in order to better build the Central Applied Research Institute of Glass New Materials, which integrates scientific research and development, industrial incubation and engineering services, the Bengbu Institute was renamed the China National Building Materials Glass New Materials Research Institute.
The General Institute of Glass New Materials Research has successively built 12 national innovation platforms such as the National Glass New Material Innovation Center and the State Key Laboratory of Float Glass New Technology, as well as silicon-based materials Anhui Provincial Laboratory and Anhui Glass New Materials Engineering Technology Research Center. 30 provincial and ministerial innovation platforms; a total of nearly 20 national "863" and "973" science and technology support plan projects have been undertaken, 1 first prize and 3 second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, and 132 provincial and ministerial awards; currently owns 720 patents, presided over and participated in the formulation of 30 national and industry standards, and undertook and completed 9 national projects; successively won the 5th China Industry Award , China International Industry Fair Award, the first Shi Changxu New Material Technology Award, the American Ceramic Society Silicate Technology Innovation Leader Award and other awards.
